Fluorite’s (Latin, “to flow”) growth pattern is cubic or octahedral and it occurs in hypothermic veins, often in association with Quartz, Calcite, and Barite. It can be found in a wide variety of colors, from colorless to black to purple or red and it is common for multiple colors to occur in the same specimen. Fluorite has lent its name to the property of fluorescence, the display of vivid glowing colors under ultraviolet light. Deposits are found in Germany, Argentina, Myanmar, England, France, Namibia, Austria, Switzerland, and Illinois.
