Bloodstone is usually an opaque chalcedony that is dark green with red spots and blotches. The green is caused by particles of chlorite or hornblende needles and the red is cause by iron oxide. It was thought in the Middle Ages that the red spots were the blood of Jesus Christ and special powers were attributed to the stone. Deposits have been found in India, China, Brazil, Australia, and the USA. Bloodstone is a great purifier and can dispel negative energies and to help bring balance.
